About

Hi, I’m Karen!

I’ve spent 27 years as a high school English teacher, I’m a certified life coach, and I’m living proof that the best glow-up of your life can happen after 50.

Wellegant Woman brings together the two things that shape how I live: wellness and elegance. To me, wellness means a healthy body, a sound mind and a tranquil spirit. Elegance means simplicity, discernment and living intentionally, with character and confidence. Put them together and you get a woman who takes exquisite care of herself and lives with vitality, pleasure, passion and purpose. And that’s exactly what I want for all of us!

A bit of my story…

There often comes a point in a woman’s life when something forces her to stop and rethink everything. For me, that moment came in 2017, when I ended my 24-year marriage and found myself newly single, raising two teenagers and teaching full time. (Oh, and I was deep in perimenopause, too…Mother Nature can have a wicked sense of humor!)

“Somewhere along the way, I had become the person everyone needed.”

My students needed me, my family needed me, and I said yes to just about everything that was asked of me. I gave until there was nothing left at the end of the day, and came dangerously close to burnout. That’s when I realized I couldn’t keep living that way.

So I made a choice. I redefined my relationship with my work and started putting my well-being above all else. I learned to set boundaries (and actually enforce them), to protect my energy instead of giving it all away, and to build simple systems and routines to take care of my body and my mind. I also fell back in love with style, beauty and the little everyday luxuries that make an ordinary day feel special.

Why I’m here

So many teachers are right where I was - giving everything they have to their students and their families and putting themselves last. You deserve so much more than that and I’m here to help you feel your best, look your best, protect your peace and build a beautiful and fulfilling life outside the classroom.

Because teaching is what you do, not who you are.

Here’s what I believe

  • Teachers deserve beautiful lives outside the classroom.
  • Boundaries are the key to protecting your peace.
  • Rest is fuel, not a reward.
  • Life gets better when it gets simpler.
  • Beauty and style are built on a foundation of wellness.
  • You don't have to earn joy. Or pleasure. Or adventure.
  • Midlife isn't an ending. It's an edit.
