You spend all day making decisions, solving problems, responding to other people’s needs, and trying to keep up with work that never really feels finished.
By the time you get home, even the simplest parts of everyday life can feel like too much.
So you wait for Friday. You wait for the next break. You wait for summer.
Meanwhile, the life you’re working so hard to support keeps getting pushed further down the list.
Most advice for overwhelmed teachers gives you even more to do: meal-prep every Sunday, wake up earlier, follow a perfect routine, practice more self-care, and set better boundaries.
It all sounds reasonable—until you try to keep up with it during a real school week.
You don’t need another reminder to take care of yourself—or another list of things you should be doing.
You need a way to make the everyday parts of life take less of your time and energy.
The guide helps you create realistic, sustainable systems built around the realities of your life—your schedule, your responsibilities, and the time and energy you actually have.
So instead of struggling to keep everything together week after week, you have reliable ways to care for your body, feed yourself and your family, manage your home, protect your time, feel like yourself, and make room for the life you want outside of school.
When these everyday parts of life are easier to manage, you spend less time and energy trying to keep everything running—and have more capacity for all of it, including school.
Life Outside the Classroom gives you six practical systems for making the everyday parts of life easier—so they require less of your time, energy, and attention.
Each section helps you decide what matters, create a realistic approach that works within the context of your life, and take one manageable step toward putting it into practice.
Create a realistic way to care for your body during the school year—without relying on perfect routines or waiting for life to become less busy.
You’ll build a simple, sustainable approach to movement, strength, sleep, hydration, and recovery that helps you feel better and have more energy for your entire life.
Stop starting from scratch every time you need to feed yourself or your family.
You’ll create a dependable rotation of breakfasts, lunches, dinners, and emergency meals that makes planning, shopping, cooking, and packing food simpler—even during your busiest school weeks.
Create a home that helps you recover from the demands of the day instead of becoming another source of work and stress.
You’ll identify how you want your home to feel, address the areas that create the most friction, and develop simple routines that make your space easier to maintain and more enjoyable to live in.
Create clearer boundaries around when school gets your time and attention—and when it doesn’t.
You’ll learn how to decide what genuinely needs to be done, establish a more reliable end to the workday, and protect more of your evenings, weekends, and mental energy for the rest of your life.
Make getting dressed and taking care of your appearance easier, faster, and more enjoyable.
You’ll create a smaller, more intentional wardrobe and simplify your beauty routines so you can feel polished and like yourself—without spending unnecessary time, energy, or money.
Make room for the people, interests, and experiences that make life meaningful beyond your work and responsibilities.
You’ll identify what you want more of, create plans you can genuinely look forward to, and begin building a life that feels full, vibrant, and unmistakably yours.
Throughout the guide, you’ll also find guided planning pages, carefully chosen resources, and a 30-Minute Reset for every system—so you can begin making meaningful changes without turning the guide into one more project you don’t have time to finish.
Each section of the guide includes:

I’ve been a teacher for 27 years, so I know how quietly this job can begin to take over your life.
There’s always something else you could do: another lesson to improve, another email to answer, another stack of papers to grade, another student to help. And when you care deeply about doing a good job, it’s very easy to keep giving—in fact, to overgive.
About ten years ago, I came dangerously close to burning out. Teaching was demanding, but it wasn’t the only difficult thing happening in my life. I was navigating the enormous emotional upheaval of divorce while perimenopause was affecting my body, sleep, energy, and sense of stability.
I was physically and emotionally depleted, and I’d built a life with very little margin to support me through any of it.
That period forced me to look honestly at how I was living. The problem wasn’t simply that I needed a better planner or a more efficient grading system. My life had become badly misaligned. I was giving enormous amounts of time and energy to work while treating my health, rest, relationships, and happiness as things I’d get to when everything else was finished.
But everything else was never finished.
So I began asking a different question:
How can I make this part of my life easier?
Over the years, that question changed how I approached just about everything. Little by little, I created systems for the recurring parts of life that had been taking up far too much time, energy, and mental space: making it easier to care for my body, getting meals on the table, managing my home, protecting my time outside of school, getting dressed and feeling like myself, and making plans that gave me something to look forward to beyond work.
None of these changes were dramatic but, together, they gave me my life back.
I created Life Outside the Classroom so you don’t have to spend years figuring this out alone. It brings everything I’ve learned into six practical systems you can begin using now—during your real life, not someday when school finally settles down.
My hope is that this guide helps you create a life that feels easier—and gives you more time and energy to actually enjoy it!
You don’t need to change everything at once. You simply need better ways to support the life you’re already living—and more time and energy for the parts of it you want to enjoy.
Life Outside the Classroom will help you create those systems, one part of your life at a time.
Because the goal isn’t just to make it through another school year.
It’s to build a life that feels good while you’re living it.
